Acid Rain

Questions:

1.) What gasses are the major cause of acid rain?
 - When humans burn fossil fuels, sulfur dioxide and nitrogen dioxide are released into the atmosphere.
 - Also rotting vegetation and volcanoes release some chemicals that can cause acid rain

2.) Where do most of these gasses come from?
 - They come from burning fossil fuels, for example, coal-burning power plants, factories and automobiles.

3.) Describe a few negative effects of acid rain.
 - The negative effects are that the rain can get into streams and lakes and the acid rain is toxic to crayfish, clams, fish and other aquatic animals.
 - It also damages the forest because the rain gets into the soil and takes all the nutrients and releases aluminum into the soil making it hard from the plants to take in water.

Fracking

Fracking is the process of getting gas from the shall rock layers deep in the Earth. I would not want to have fracking near where I live because when you 'frack' there is a chance that different types of gasses and oil could get into the water that you drink and use everyday.

Fossil Fuels

1.) Oil, petroleum, natural gas, gasoline, petrol, coal are all examples of fossilized fuel. They are fossilized because they are made out of things that have been on the Earth for millions of years. Coal is made from plants, and usually tree trunks. Petroleum is made out of all kinds of chemicals and, of course, fuel for transport: cars, trucks, ships and aeroplanes. Natural gas is almost made out of pure carbon.

2.) China, USA, and India.

3.) USA, Russia, and China.

What is the estimated cost of the damage?
The estimated cost of the damage is, "it is no going to be cheap." Said Bryant, who oversees the county's Chemical Stockpile Emergency Preparedness Program.

Breakwater

A breakwater is a structure in the water usually made out of rock so that the water doesn't erode something else in the water like the beach.
The negative things about a breakwater are that when a wave hits it not only does it go upward but it goes downward too, causing the beach in front of it to erode.

Windbreaks 1/2/13

Windbreaks is a type of system that plants trees/shrubs in a place so that the wind won't erode the soil. The more crop you have the taller/longer your trees/shrubs should be. Some people even use this system around their house so that it doesn't get eroded.
